Abdi Latif Dahir is the East Africa correspondent for The New York Times, reporting from Nairobi, Kenya.
He joined The Times in 2019 after covering East Africa for Quartz for three years. In that role, he reported on China’s deepening reach into Africa, the political transitions in Ethiopia and Sudan, the intersection of technology and geopolitics, and how companies and innovators were shaping industries from agriculture to art. Abdi earned a master’s degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.
