Abu Yair, 72nd Abbasid Caliph

Friedrich Engels, Karl Marx's comrade, explains in 'The Origin of the Family, Private Property and the State' how conquerors, colonizers end up being eaten by the conquered peoples, adopting their habits and customs. Emilio Lussu, the Sardinian anti-fascist who created the Action Party and then the resistance movement "Giustizia e Libertà", recounts a scene he experienced in the 1920s, when he witnessed the return of Italian soldiers from Libya to the port of Cagliari: they were dressed in djellabas and slippers, some with a monkey on their shoulder, others with reed flutes and darboukas (drums). They had become Arabs!

This is what came to my mind when I saw the photos of Bibi Netanyahu's election campaign, who became Abu Yair to seduce Palestinian voters, those whom the Zionists call “Arabs”. On March 7, Abu Yair went to have coffee with the Bedouin notables of Rahat and promised them 1 billion shekels (€250 million, $300M) to ensure their “security against crime”. And on March 21, in a television interview, he promised to organize direct flights from Tel Aviv to Mecca for the next pilgrimage. But above all, Abu Yair managed to put the other Abbas, the "Victorious" (Mansour), in his pocket.

This dentist from Maghar, a large village with a Druze majority, is the leader of the United Arab List (RAAM, its Hebrew acronym), a party from the so-called “Southern” branch of the Islamic Movement, founded in 1989 in the “Triangle”, the Umm El Fahm region. The Southerners and Northerners have been divided since the 1990s, with the former accepting the Oslo Accords and the latter rejecting them. The division deepened when the Southerners decided to participate in the Israeli elections, and joined three “Arab” parties, Balad, Hadash and Ta'al (communists, nationalists and liberals) to form the Joint List (al-Qa'imah al-Mushtarakah/HaReshima HaMeshutefet), which won 15 seats in the Knesset last year, breaking all its records. But a few months ago, RAAM decided to run for office on its own, after Bibi aka Abu Yair promised them the best of both worlds. It paid off for our Abbas, whose list just won four seats. Of course, he will not become a minister alongside Kahanists who only dream of a final solution for the “Arabs”, but he has become the “kingmaker” of the country: Abu Yair needs the votes of his 4 MKs to obtain a Knesset majority.

Mansour, like Mahmoud, his cousin from Ramallah, bears the prestigious name of Abbas (The Austere, The Lion), the uncle of the Prophet of Islam, who founded the Abbasid dynasty, which provided 71 caliphs, from 750 to 1258 in Baghdad, then from 1261 to 1517 in Cairo. Neither of them will ever be caliphs. They will simply go down in history as the makers of the first Jewish caliph in history, Abu Yair.
