Human Rights : Freedom : Democracy
On February 1st 2021, democracy in Myanmar was taken hostage in a brutal military coup. The illegitimate military putschists have since tried to impose their rule through violence, murder and unlawful arrest. But they have not succeeded yet.
Artists in Myanmar have courageously brought the fight to the streets and to the airwaves, using their art to project the nation’s voice, to depict its fears and above all, to scream hope.
Our archive showcases that art, and calls on artists around the world to amplify the voices of the Myanmar people. The louder the volume, the harder it is for those seeking to steal the future to succeed.
Artists are invited to join a global salute by creating their version, in their medium and to share it within their networks. This will look different for every artist but the possibilities are endless and the noise can be deafening.
Using the power of this creative collective, we’ll mobilise a global audience, grow awareness, raise funds for pro-democracy groups, and lobby organisations and governments to step up the pressure and defend democracy.
