An avalanche of authoritarianism, violence and fascist terror has struck Brazil in recent weeks, culminating in the dramatic score obtained by Captain Jair Bolsonaro in the first round of this year's presidential election.
It is urgent that good men and women, who do not accept the use of violence as a solution to the serious problems of our country, mobilize and unite to defeat Jair Bolsonaro, candidate of the far right, spokesman for torturers, advocates of discrimination and violence against women, blacks, Indians, Northeasterners, LGBT, minorities and social movements; the voice of advocates for the physical elimination of criminals, adults and minors, and of all those who do not respect their ideas of social exclusion.
At this serious time when there is no organized popular movement in the country, the only way to defeat the right-wing candidate is to vote in the second round for Fernando Haddad.
Let us set aside the serious restrictions that must be placed on the policies adopted so far by the PT (Workers’ Party) and its governments, let us set aside the criticisms that can be made of this candidacy, the antipathies, the hatred propagated by the supporters of fascist violence, and let us mobilize to conquer the unity of the major national sectors - parties, trade unions, associations, social movements, student organizations - to defeat fascism, to beat the enemies of social progress and democracy in our country.
All united for the defeat of fascism! Vote for Fernando Haddad!
