After 42 years of occupation, the Saharawi people are facing a possible momentum in their call for freedom. The eventual transformation of this conflict of international dimensions depends on the collaboration of Saharawi organizations, groups and activists through a joint vision. These actors can also through international outreach get support from political and social actors devoted to human rights, justice and dignity. This joint vision and collaboration will lead to a nonviolent strategy that shows in common campaigns and actions.
With this background, the organizers call for the event the international conference “Sahara Rise” on civil resistance, February 25th- 27th 2018 in the Saharawi refugee camps in Tindouf, Algeria. This initiative will be a pioneer in the refugee camps offering a common space for both Saharawis as well as all who believes in a nonviolent struggle for Western Sahara.
The main objectives of this conference are:
1. The development of an effective, inclusive nonviolent campaign, based on a common vision of all participating Saharawi organizations;
2. The creation of a platform to support this campaign that reinforces and shapes alliances of support between the Saharawi people and international actors.
This conference organized and led by Saharawi organizations is guided by nonviolence as a strategy for social transformation; the indivisible rights of all human beings to liberty, just peace, and a dignified future; gender equality; truth and transparency to our purpose.
